Formed in 2014, the experimental electronica outfit Bit of Both emerged out of Ash Roy and Ashvin Mani Sharma’s (Calm Chor) desire to be able to produce and perform with live elements.
As two of India’s prominent producers and founding members of Jalebee Cartel – India’s most successful live underground music act – Ash Roy and Ashvin Mani Sharma are no strangers to dance music fans in India. Since Cartel’s disbanding in 2012, Ash and Ashwin have set up Soupherb Records, India’s fastest growing underground independent music label to promote their brand of techno and house, and have now come together to produce music as Bit of Both.
The Bit of Both sound is dancefloor friendly but not limited by it. Minimal grooves are paired with vocals and live percussion to create soundscapes that are gentle but not feeble.
The show itself has lights and visuals that are synced to the digital percussion and midi keyboards making for a one of a kind live show .
They released their debut album “Prequels and Sequels” on January 15th 2016, featuring Indian producers like Grain and Kohra, singer Anushka Manchanda, and New York based guitarist Bhrigu Sahni. The album hit number 1 on the beatport top 100 minimal charts and stayed there for nearly 2 weeks. It also hit the Electronica,Techno and the Main beatport charts at the same time.
Dividing their time between India and Berlin, you might have caught them last summer ’15 playing live at Sisyphos, Salon zur Wilde Renate, Fusion Festival and back in ’14 at Burning Man.
Bit of Both have gone on to playing along side Ritchi Hawtin, Sasha, Ambivalent, Nic Fanciulli, Acid Pauli, among many other.
